A Slow Step

Product Description
silver gelatin print 60,0 x 75,0 cm. edition 7 +1 AP

End of October 2012 in the Spanish Pyrenees. I love the end of the fall season. Everywhere mountain huts, hotels, shops close up for the winter. I arrived at the Refugio on the very last day it was open. It had been snowing the whole day and the guardian was quite surprised to see me arrive cause he was packing up. The next days promised some fair weather though so he agreed to let me stay while he went down to the valley to fetch some stuff.

For me too, it was the end of an 8-week long trip through the Pyrenees and I wanted to get up high to kind of bow out and say goodbye gracefully. High above everything with the first snows of winter coming in, there's an ethereal silence folding down on the landscape. It is strangely reassuring to know that in a couple of days, all human presence will be gone for another six months.

Title is from 'The Simplon Pass' (W. Wordsworth)

Were fellow-travellers in this gloomy Pass,
And with them did we journey several hours
At a slow step...

Framing: float frame 64 x 79 cm, solid beechwood oiled, inside painted black. The print is waxed to protect it from accidental moisture and environmental degradation.
